• "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
• "Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Thank you for your quick reply and the detailed steps to help diagnose and hopefully correct this problem.

Flash has been upgraded to ver. 10.1.102.64. Java to JRE-6u22-windows-1586. The cache has been cleared. Safe Mode only allows the Default Theme. There are no offending cookies. The Troubleshooting instructions for extensions and themes and for plug-ins indicate that when the problem persists in Safe Mode, other causes are likely. The only outdated add-on was Quick Time, which was upgraded to ver. 7.68.75.0. Yet the problem persists with the Google "web" links failing to display in-line beneath the Tabs bar.

Interestingly, when making any searches using the Google search box, these missing links all appear in a vertical sidebar to the left of the screen, with only the link for "maps" missing.

After searching through the various links and articles regarding this matter, it is pleasing to report that the file name for the page that I wanted to restore is the "Mozilla Firefox Start Page," (http://www.google.ca/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official) which contains the several "search operators" that I had referred to as "web menu bar" items.

I also discovered that an alternative "iGoogle Start Page" also contains these same items, plus the option to add "gadgets," such as Calendars with Clocks, CNN News, Local Weekly Weather Forecast, YouTube Videos, Horoscopes, and a host of other available gadgets that can be arranged according to user preferences. The option to modify Settings, use the Classic Display Settings or optional features is also available, as well as the option to make this the default start page. A Help link is also included. It is necessary to sign in, or to create an account to sign in, to use these option at http://www.google.com/ig.

It seems that I might have accidentally signed off of a similar page and lost the "search operators" that I had been attempting to restore. My restored page does not contain the former screen name (email address) that had appeared in the upper right side of my original page, nor the option to modify Settings, sign off or use Classic Displays, etc., which were also on the original page. Otherwise, the restored page is fundamentally the same as before; at least until I discover how to fully restore all of the other items from my lost default start page.

I hope that this final post offers some kind of help and/or assistance to anyone else who might be experiencing a similar problem. Searching on: 1) Mozilla Firefox Start Page or 2) iGoogle Start Page will display an assortment of links that will launch these respective start pages and provide instructions for modifying or expanding their uses.
