How do you copy and paste on Android?

When I'm browsing various sites there is often a need to either copy text from a web page or paste text from elsewhere on the phone (such as a password manager app) into a form on a web page. When using the stock Android browser this is generally accomplished by a long-tap on the text or form. However, when using Firefox this doesn't do anything. So I would like to know how, when using Firefox on Android, I can copy and paste text. Please bear in mind that the phone I am using - the HTC Evo - is a touchscreen device and has no physical keyboard.

Thank you for any help.

We recently added the ability to copy and paste in web forms: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=611741

This change will be included in the next update that we release through the Android Market, or you can test it out now in our nightly builds.

I installed the nightly, per your suggestion. And it seems copy / paste is now almost working. The one problem I've encountered is that when trying to paste into a password field that masks your entry the "Paste" option doesn't come up in the context menu after a long tap on the password field. I've encountered this on the 3 sites I've tried so far - Amazon, Android Central, and Best Buy's credit card management. Pasting the username works just fine, so it seems it's something about the masking of the password entry box.

Thanks for pointing me towards the nightlies. I'll keep an eye on them and keep testing things out.

Oops! It looks like this is a bug in Fennec. I've reported it here and will fix it ASAP: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=641217

Thanks very much for testing this and reporting your results!

Update: This bug has been fixed. The fix will be included in tomorrow's nightly build, and in the next update on the Android Market. Thanks again for helping us make Firefox better.

In current versions of Firefox for Android, you can touch and hold to copy and paste in forms and other text editing fields.

However, you can't yet select and copy other text from web pages. We're starting work on adding that feature for a future version. You can find some details here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Fennec/Features/androidcopypaste
