About 3 weeks ago I downloaded the latest(?) version of firefox. It was recorded as v5.0 (I think - I cannot remember the sub numbers). Today firefox downloaded automatically a new version. I was surprise to see that it was v3.6.18!! That was approximately the version I had before I downloaded the version 5.

I think this is odd and decided to ask why I am apparently now upgraded(?) to an inferior version.

Is it possible that you had installed a "release channel" version and a "beta channel" version side-by-side? Something might have become confused between then.

Now that 5 is officially released, you may want to install it again. But first, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
