How do I change my settings so that when I open a new tab it opens my homepage and not some random search engine?

When I open a new tab it opens a random search engine and I want it to open to my home page. I have a mac and when I look at the preferences in Safari there is a button right there that asks this specific question, but I cant seem to find the similar button or option in Firefox. Any ideas?

Hi nateauping,

By default Firefox will open a blank new page. You cannot change this behavior without installing an add-on of some sort.

First thing I'd do is try starting Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If you don't see the random search engine while all of your add-ons are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide and the Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems article as well.

Once you have deleted the add-on causing you trouble, you can look for an add-on that will allow you to use your homepage for new tabs. I like an addon called New Tab King personally, but there are plenty of others.

Hopefully this helps!
