Firefox crashes

Hi,

I am running a website and foudn out that there seems to be a serious problem with firefox and wepages having lots of pictures linked to if those pics have a larger size and they are shown on the webpage with a reduced width/height size.

Firefox (add-ons deactivated) crashes reproduceable while trying to load this page e.g. http://www.tango-dj.at/DJ-ing/CDs/amp-catalog.htm

I had a similar problem with that page http://www.tango-dj.at/DJ-ing/CDs/cta-catalog.htm as long as the pics have been a little larger. I had to reduce size in order to make this page work with firefox!

But http://www.tango-dj.at/DJ-ing/CDs/amp-catalog.htm doesn't even work with this smaller pics..

Google's Chrome loads the same page within seconds without a problem..

With Flash blocked, the Firebug extension shows a "page weight" of about 73.5 megabytes for amp-catalog.htm and 107.9 megabytes for cta-catalog.htm, adding together the sizes of the html and images. The Flash content presumably adds even more. I'm not sure who has the patience to download so much at once, but I wouldn't even try it on my home connection.

Perhaps you could switch to displaying thumbnail images in your page rather than scaling down the full size images, and only downloading the full size images on request?

(Note: I tested the page with NoScript blocking scripts and plugins.)

By the way, I suggest clearing the cache so you can do a clean test.

thx fotr your reply. yes it's a big one, I know. Still, 1. Chrome loads it within seconds and without problems. 2. CTA page is loading just fine whereas the AMP page makes Firefox crash.

I consider this not a discussion about usability of the page, but rather a bug/find a reason of why firefox crashes?!

(On the long run I'll add thumbnails, but for now I have no time to do so..)

cheers, Bernhard

I change both pages using thumbnails in the sake of speed and usability. Those pages feature worldwide unique information, so people do wait to get it no matter if it takes some time to load.

The issue why those pages were loaded without any problem in internet explorer and chrome and most likely any other browser but firefox remains unless there is a page-size-limit for firefox of what? 70 MB?

I think that was a good decision.

With respect to your original question, since both pages loaded fine for me (with scripts and Flash disabled), I don't think it's a size problem.
