Since updating to the latest Firefox version, I have lost the ability to see videos on a whole host of websites. I followed the guidance to disable the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin 15.0.4 and have also tried the process of resetting to no avail

Any Ideas

Regards

David Webb

(If you are reading the email I suggest you follow the email link to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/929466 this information is formatted to be read on the website)

Hi David,
Are you able to give a couple of example, of public sites where you are having problems, preferably with low resolution/bandwidth content. That will enable others to test them.

Sorry you are having problems. This is likely to be something affecting only some Firefox users, and a bit more basic information would help us to understand the problem.

The fact that you mention Real Player Browser Record plugin suggests you have already researched the problem. That has caused problems with FlashPlayer and is now blocklisted https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/

Please

  1. State what version of FlashPlayer you are currently using?
  2. Then update to the current version, and confirm what version that is?
  3. As you have Win7 may I ask you to try using Internet Explorer and say whether or not that also suffers this problem?
  4. Also confirm which version of Firefox you are using?
(note a minor update could be released this week so are you still on 13.0 )

Could you clarify what is meant by cant see, do you get any sort of error message, and presumably some Flash Video sites are ok with Firefox.

John

Hi

I am using Adobe flash player plugin Version 11.3.300.257 and downloaded the Firefox updates 3 days ago (which was when my problems began). Using YouTube I get the message 'An error occurred. Please try again later'. On DailyMotion I get 'Oops We are experiencing some difficulties with this video. Please try again later. Error 2002'. On Yahoo movies I simply get a white screen Hope this gives you something to work on

Update

I note the info on the Adobe Flash Site does get updated. Have a look at the current advice on

Our own advice is at

It would be interesting to know if the problem is solved in a new Firefox profile (or for that matter a new Windows OS account). That points towards the problem being some other extension software causing the problem, but probably only in protected mode.

The Adobe site mentions the last resort option of disabling protected mode. That has risks. Risks similar to the risk of using the prior Flash version. If you wish to take that risk I would suggest only as a quick test on a site with a good reputation. Doing so does at least confirm what the underlying problem is.
