I love the thumbnails that open up my recently opened pages in a new tab. Can I set my home page to show these thumbnails when I start firefox? Thanks

You set the number of rows and columns that appear on the about:newtab page by modifying these prefs on the about:config page via a double-click.

  • browser.newtabpage.columns (3)
  • browser.newtabpage.rows (3)

You can set the home page to about:newtab.

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page

Thank you but, I don't want to open all the recently opened web pages, which happens when I set my homepage as 'about:newtab' , I want to have all the thumbnails on my homepage so I can choose which page to open, just like when I open a new tab.

Thanks chris.

Did you try to set the Home page to about:newtab?

That will make the New Tab page with the nine squares appear if you click to Home button, but it won't open links.

I had my home page set up so that 15 or so of my favorites each had their own thumbnail, and this is the wasy it appeared every time I went to it. But I had to restore my original settings to get rid of a problem, now I can't figure out how to set the home page back up again. I currently have it set up with 9 thumbnails, how do I get to 15 or 20?

I finally stumbled through this, and got the 15 thumbnails on the screen. Each thumbnail has a web site attatched to it, and when I click on the thumbnail, it takes me to that specific site, however, some of the thumbnails now display an image of the website they represent, while others remain blank. How do I get the blank ones to display the image of the page they represent?

Pages that send a no-store or no-cache header (Tools > Page Info > General) aren't cached and thus Firefox does not generate a thumbnail (Bug #754608).

Before I had to restore to original settings, the home page contained 20 thumbnails, and I could right click on any one of them and insert a web address of a given website. When I clicked "ok", the thumbnail would show that website, and clicking on this thumbnail wold take you to this website.

Did you try to click one of the empty thumbnails to visit such a link?

Sometimes it also helps to close and restart Firefox with those tabs opening automatically.

Clicking on the empty thumbnails does nothing at all. Prior to resetting firefox, each thumbnail had a web address attatched to it. This address was easily editable by the user by simply right clicking on the thumbnail in question. Blank thumbnails simply required that I right click, and then a window would appear. I would enter the web address in the window, and then upon closing the window, the thumbnail would reflect a miniature view of that websites current home page.

This is how I did it.

  1. type in about:config in the address bar.
  2. type browser.newtab.url in the search bar at the top
  3. right click it and hit reset

if the reset button is grayed out, double click it instead of right clicking and type this in the box: about:newtab

Worked for me!
