In previous Firefox versions, there was an option like this: "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file" This _IS NOT_ me asking for the old downloads window, I want to know how to make the new one open whenever i download a file, so when i download something, the window appears without me pressing ctrl+j or anything else.

I cannot think of a reason to remove this option, so is there a way to make that happen? I am assuming that it is normal for firefox 22 to open the 'downloads' menu in the library, which, I have to say, I absolutely love. I just wish it would open automatically.

This is what my settings window looks like: http://i.imgur.com/Nv8KGHZ.png There should be another checkbox with the text "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file". I am using Windows XP but have had the same problem in Linux Mint.

That - Show the Downloads window when downloading a file - pref was removed from Options -> General in Firefox 22. Not sure about a "hidden" pref to have it show as before, I don't see a "hidden" pref in about:config.

I suspect Mozilla expects users to hit the "new to Fx21" downloads arrow on the Navigation bar to open the Library, once the download is complete and the green arrow is bright.

You only see this option in Tools > Options > General if you are using the classic Download Manager.

Firefox manages downloads in the Downloads folder in the Library (History > Show All History)

  • Downloads are treated as history items: clearing history removes included download items and vice verse.
  • When downloads are in progress you see an animated download button on the Navigation Toolbar showing an estimate of the remaining time
  • The Download button gets a green highlight once all download are finished to make you aware that new downloads are available.
  • Pause and Resume can be found in the right-click context menu of an item.

You can display the new Download Manager in a tab by opening the about:downloads page (this is the default in Private Browsing mode).
