My question is about browsing the internet, and particularly going to financial and online banking websites. In Google Chrome for example, the green bar that indicates fully encrypted connection remains while browsing those sites.

In Firefox, the green bar appears for a second, and then it disappears after the page loads and turns into a gray bar. When I click on it, it says that the connection is only partially encrypted. How do I change this so that it remains green and stays fully encrypted?

If I go to the same site like Mt.Gox for example in both Chrome and Firefox, in Chrome the bar will stay green while in Firefox the bar will flash green for a second and then turn gray.

I want to use Firefox, but this green bar thing makes me feel like it is less secure than Chrome, which is opposite of my research.

Thanks for your help.

hello, it means that part of the page isn't loading through a secure connection. firefox has in some cases a higher bar of warning you of that problem than chrome (for example if a https:-page contains a picture embedded via http:).

to see what's going on please open the web-console (under windows it has the shortcut f12, i'm not sure about mac) and only enable logging of security warnings... this might give you an indication what kind of content is loading unencrypted.

what you could also do is to block the loading of "passive" (pictures, etc.) mixed content by default - therefore enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named security.mixed_content.block_display_content. double-click it and change its value to true.
