thumbnails not updating on new tab page.
in Firefox 25, after visiting a site from the new tab page, the thumbnail updates itself to show the latest page.
in Firefox 26 and 27, the thumbnail no longer updates after visiting its respective site.
also COMMAND+SHIFT+T no longer works (to re-open the last closed tab)

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).
- Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
- Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"
i do not use private browsing mode, so the box is already unchecked.
i also tried starting ff in safe mode and the thumbnails still do not refresh after visiting the site.
Is Firefox using the disk cache (i.e. is there a disk cache section on the about:cache page)?
yes disk cache is used.
i've gone back and forth between FF25 and FF26/FF27. works fine in FF25, doesn't work in FF26 and 27. this is a bug.
