Chosen solution

Very odd, usually if there is no 'Trash' file, when Thunderbird restarts it should create a new one.

Try this: open your Profile folder. close Thunderbird.

In 'Mail' / 'pop.ziggo.nl ' - where you see your Folders as files. Right click in blank space and select 'New' > 'Text Document' A file called 'New Text Document.txt' , a 'Text Document' will appear. rename this to 'Trash', with a capital T and no extension. it will say if you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable, are you sure you want to change it? Click on Yes.

close window and restart Thunderbird.

Now try to delete an email.

from the open folder button in the troubleshooting, open the profile folder.

Navigate to the folder Mail/pop.ziggo.nl and check the size of the two files Deleted and deleted.msf. Then go to the folder Mail\Local folders and repeat

What are the respective sizes of these four files?

Hi Mat,

No files deleted or deleted.msf in mai/.pop.ziggo.nl

After the map Trash disappeared I created last week a new submap in Inbox, named Prullenbak (Trash). Size Prullenbak 70 kb, size Prullenbak.msf 4 kb

The same folders in Local folders are empty. I never use local folders.

Thanks allready for helping me, Theo

If the 'Trash' folder in the Folder Pane does not use the language spelling you prefer.

Right click on the 'Trash' folder and select 'Properties'. In the General Information tab: Name: type your preferred spelling do not change the location.

If you want this folder to be included in Global Search, put a check in the appropriate box Click on OK to save changes.

I will come back in at the end.... You could check your anti virus logs, the file may well have been swept up in an anti virus scan.
