My Firefox just updated!!!!

more options

Hi!

Today I went onto my server, which has been running the same version of Firefox for the last 2 years has just updated without my consent.

This new version of Firefox does not allow any of my extensions to work!!!

When I goto the Control panel, it doesn't tell me there was an update but my Firefox does not look the same and things are not working.

What has happened and how do I get this stupid update removed!?

Firefox likely updated to 38.0.1. Did another user account on your machine update Firefox? That would update Firefox on all user accounts.

If you want to use a version of Firefox without every 6 week update, I suggest ESR. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/

It is necessary to remain on the latest version of Firefox for stability and security reasons. You can check for updates to your add-ons, or post them here and we can help you get them working.

No, no body else has access to this server. It's actually sitting right behind me. It is a dedicated server which is running my files.

I understand it's necessary to remain with the latest version of Firefox for stability and security reasons, but I do not need Firefox for those reasons.

Which is the reason I have changed my Firefox settings to NOT UDPATE!

This morning, when I woke up I noticed Firefox looked completely different.

None of my extensions work. My Control panel still says it's version 33.0 which was updated over a year ago.

Something changed my settings without my consent and it has screwed everything up. It will probably take me a few days to get it working again like last time!

I thought as this being my computer, I had the rights to choose if something would update or not. What is the setting on Firefox there for then? To look pretty?

I have gotten my extension to work.

It still doesn't change the fact that I am pissed you think it's ok to just change my computer files around.

What do I have to do. Block all Firefox servers so my browser won't update without my consent? It may be the only option as Firefox will update even when you tell it not to!!!

What a world we would be in if every program on our computer started updating!!!! WOW!

I will be looking into Internet Explorer or Chrome options!

Did you check to see what Firefox's settings for updating were?

One question I have is, if that is a LAN file server why does it even have internet access?

Check the Firefox program files to see if you have maintenanceservice.exe in that folder. If that is there, it may override any user settings you may have set - like "Never check for updates (not recommended: security risk)". If it's there, delete that file, along with the maintenanceservice-installer.exe. You get the option to not install the Maintenance Service if you select the Custom option when first installing Firefox.
