I need to leave e-mails on the original e-mail server and still be able to read the e-mails using Thunderbird

When I read e-mails and delete them Thunderbird deletes the e-mails from the original server. Another user also reads the e-mails, so I need to leave them on the original server for her to be able to also read them.

Are you using POP or IMAP? Sounds like the later and that is normal operation for IMAP.
