When I try to connect my granddaughter's laptop to YouTube, Firefox says, "This Connection is Untrusted." It won't let me continue because it says YouTube uses HTTP Strict Transport Security. I have no problems with any other websites.

The error code is sec_error_unknown_issuer

The laptop uses Windows 10, which I despise, and is an HP Pavilion x2 11-h110nr.

Please help; YouTube is apparently vital to her continued existence.

There is security software like Avast and Kaspersky and BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate.

This Connection is Untrusted is sometimes caused because the computer system clock is wrong. Check the time / date / time zone settings.

hi, this problem might be happening in windows 10 accounts restricted by microsoft family parental controls. if you don't want to use this feature intentionally, you could turn that off for your account like described at: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/turn-off-microsoft-family-settings

in case you want to have it on on purpose, you'd need to some configuration work in firefox, and install the certificate of ms family safety that is getting used to intercept secure connections into the browser's trust store. open this link in firefox in the affected account - then a dialog about adding a cert should display. please check the box to Trust this CA to identify web sites & confirm the change.

if this information doesn't apply to your situation, then it might also be due to different software on the device like an antivirus-product which is intercepting secure connections from the machine...

If you can't inspect the certificate via "I Understand the Risks" then try this:

Open the "Add Security Exception" window by pasting this chrome URL in the Firefox location/address bar and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field of this window type or paste the URL of the website.

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

You can inspect details like the issuer and the certificate chain in the Details tab of the Certificate Viewer. Check who is the issuer of the certificate. If necessary then you can attach a screenshot that shows the certificate viewer.
