I have firefox version 47.0.1. on a Macbook pro. I keep getting alerts to update to version 49, and then a message saying that the update can't happen automatically so I need to go to Mozilla website. I've tried to upload the new version from the website at least 10 times, but even after restarting firefox and deleting the old version, I somehow still end up with version 47.0.1 and then the alerts to update start again.

You have an extension that you would be much better off without - Searchme 2.8 (searchme@mybrowserbar.com) . See if that helps. What does it do for you? Do you Know where it came from? Google for the general idea. Use the Malware Tips link for removal.

Thank you, alan_r! You sent me off to look in the right direction. I'm having problems downloading a program that will remove searchme but now I know the source of the problem so I will continue to look for a solution. Thank you!
