My address book contains duplicates, Google contacts does not, will sync erase google contacts
Google contacts list does not have duplicates. In Thunderbird, I have several duplicates. When I deleted the duplicates in Address Book, how will the sync affect Google contacts. There are 54 duplicates and I don't want Thunderbird to delete the only entry in Google. Unfortunately, I did not compare the TB record with the Google record. Can I cancel the deletions now? Is there a way to delete the entire Address Book and start fresh?

Google Contacts only "knows" about addresses in the connected address book in Thunderbird. You haven't made it plain if your duplications are within an address book, or between multiple/different address books.
Sorry for being unclear. I have only one address book in Thunderbird. When I started using Thunderbird, I synced Google (only one address book) into Thunderbird. I also have an android phone that is synced to the Google contacts but not to Thunderbird. (I was assuming that Google was the master list and usually do all of my additions there.)
I checked my Thunderbird Address Book and saw duplicates. I deleted them and now the sync (gConnect) indicates that it is going to delete 54 records in Google and make 0 additions. I don't know how gConnect works and I'm not sure what I should do other than disable the sync for now.
