After closing Firefox and re-opening, tabs are not reloading properly

On two separate computers I have noticed in the last month, or so, that when firefox closes and I restart the computer, the "Restore Previous Session" option will only bring up a couple saved pages and the rest will populate the tabs as "new tabs". I am closing firefox by either utilizing the red "x" on the window or right clicking the icon on the taskbar and choosing "close windows", and then verifying the close all tabs prompt on each open window. The two computers rarely see the same websites as one is for work and the other is a personal computer. I am more interested in fixing the problem than I am in restoring the historical pages, since I can still find that info in the history sidebar if needed. Windows 7, Firefox 55.0 Thanks.

How quickly are you restarting Windows after closing Firefox?

Firefox does take a bit of time closing all the open files that it is / was using when you exit Firefox. Try waiting at least 30 seconds after exiting Firefox before restarting Windows and see if that makes a difference.

Thank you for your quick response. This is not just tied to the restarting of the computer. Just this morning I just restarted firefox on its own and the problem persists.

In resonse to your question on restarts: I do not know. When the computer restarts it is usally tied to an update event and without my intervention. I would like to think that windows will allow the program to completely close out before shutting down...

Only a very small handful of times has firefox done this in the past, usually related to forcing the program to close due to hanging. But recently it is almost at 100% of the time.

I wouldn't trust Windows that far. Firefox needs time to close all the files that are open in the Profile folder, one of which includes the session backup file.

I avoid allowing any programs to do updates when Firefox is running, and if I don't get a choice the "restart now" or "restart later I quickly open the Windows Task Manager and highlight firefox.exe and End process to kill Firefox before Windows restarts. Works for me.

Maybe another support contributor will have a "better answer" for you.

I think in other threads about this problem an incompatible add-on might have been to blame. Maybe IE Tab (might be obsolete) or Tab Mix Plus (probably has an update available).

I will remove IE tab and see how it goes. When I searched the problem, I did not find any related posts, can you link to any of them here? Thank you.
