Thunderbird "Delivery Status Notification" is a very secure procedure to insure that (2) parties are actually communicating together.. When (2) email parties successfully communicate to each other, this is called a closed loop..

I had the latest version of Thunderbird (59.0b2).. When I got my latest Thunderbird (60.2.1), the "Option Folder" no longer included [ ] "Delivery Status Notification" and [ ] "Read Receipt".. See image below (#1) Prior Thunderbird (60.0).

I rely very much when it comes to sending very important documents to financial institutes, lawyers and etc.. "Delivery Status Notification" and "Read Receipt" are for very important documents..

Thunderbird "Delivery Status Notification" uses a "ping" program, not a networking utility (IP), but searches the "Simple Mail Transfer Protocol" (SMTP) server and then looks for the "Mail Exchange" (MX) if it is still available..

"Delivery Status Notification" is "not gone".. Email sent/received confirmation using the new versions of Mozilla Thunderbird (60.5.2) has been now moved to a "second level".. When going to [Write] this second level still has the [Option Folder].. See image below (#2) New Thunderbird (60.5.2).

I'm still using 52.9.1 But for a long time, so long I cannot remember, it has always been in the same place.... where you are actually writing the email as it has nothing to do with folders nor accounts. Quite some time ago, the 'Mail Toolbar' was positioned within the tab and there were several changes. eg: All buttons relating to the email that was open and viewable in the lower Message Pane were removed from the 'Mail Toolbar' and positioned just above the headers of the viewable email. Perhaps it was a part of those changes, but that was years ago.

So as far as I was aware it has always been : Click on 'Write' create email Click on 'Options' and select 'Delivery Status Notification'

But for anyone with an old view then the information you provided would be useful.
