suddenly im getting no sound on this browser

more options

a few days ago, Firefox stopped playing sounds. Any sounds. not youtube, not on Facebook. Not even porn videos. nothing. i don't remember installing any new software and Chrome plays youtrube sounds just fine. I listen on headphones and when i unjack, i still can only hear Chrome's browser play sounds. It seems like its not my comp, its the browser itself and it's only happened recently. i have yet to uninstall the browser and re-install, but i think if i use the Mozilla backup program to save my bookmarks, it will save whatever setting is causing the problem as well and re-installing will get me nowhere. anyone have any clue? i'm sure it's something simple but i cant figure it out

It sounds like you're experiencing a specific issue with Firefox where it has stopped playing sounds across various websites, including YouTube and Facebook. Since you've mentioned that Chrome plays sounds without any issues, it suggests that the problem might be isolated to Firefox itself.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. **Clear Browser Cache and Cookies**: Sometimes, corrupted cache or cookies can cause unexpected behavior in web browsers. Try clearing your Firefox browser cache and cookies to see if it resolves the issue.

2. **Check Firefox Sound Settings**: Ensure that sound is enabled in Firefox and that the correct audio output device is selected. You can access these settings by clicking on the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner (Menu) > Options > General > Scroll down to "Language and Appearance" > Click on "Settings" next to "Choose your preferred audio playback device."

3. **Update Firefox**: Make sure you are using the latest version of Firefox. Outdated software can sometimes lead to compatibility issues. You can check for updates by clicking on the Menu > Help > About Firefox.

4. **Disable Add-ons and Extensions**: Try disabling any add-ons or extensions you have installed in Firefox, as they could potentially be causing conflicts. You can do this by going to Menu > Add-ons and Themes > Extensions, then disable each one individually and test if the sound issue persists.

5. **Reset Firefox Settings**: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting Firefox to its default settings. This will revert Firefox back to its original state, potentially resolving any underlying issues. You can do this by going to Menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Refresh Firefox.

6. **Check Windows Sound Settings**: Ensure that your Windows sound settings are configured correctly and that Firefox is not muted or set to a very low volume in the system volume mixer.

7. **Reinstall Firefox**: As a last resort, you can uninstall Firefox completely from your computer and then reinstall it. This will ensure that any corrupted files or settings are removed. You can use the Firefox backup program to save your bookmarks before reinstalling, as you mentioned.

If after trying these steps the issue still persists, it might be worth reaching out to Firefox support or checking their community forums for further assistance. They may have encountered similar issues and can provide more targeted solutions.
