Why can't I update to 3.6.4 ????

I tried updating to 3.6.4. It says "The partial Update could not be applied. Firefox will try again by downloading a complete Update." When I click Next >, it downloaded once more the update but again it failed to install.

This happened

Not sure how often

Did you find files in the above mentioned folder?

If the above didn't help then do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop. Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer. It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue. ..... See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall

Popup says "The update could not be installed. Plesae make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, then restart Firefox to try again." I hit "okay". I get a pop up that says "Firefox is installing your updates and will start in a moment". Then that disappears, and the first popup reappears. This is an endless loop. There is nothing called Firefox in the list of processes from tskmgr.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)

Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder:

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updates ..... Vista/Windows7: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates %LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updates

I had the same problem, the log showed that the installer could not remove js3250.dll. Process Explorer found this dll owned by the plugin-container.exe. I killed this process and voila, it was working.

Maybe the installer should kill all the firefox-dependent processes...

Environment: Windows 7, admin rights.
