how do i fix the issue of firefox crashes after being open for couple minutes...i have downloaded updated version but when i try to install it brings error message stating file is corrupt

for past couple days firefox has been crashing. the crash happens on any webpage, even when im just on my homepage. i downloaded new version yesterday n when i went to install a message box appeared n said tht the file was corrupt

I have this problem now. Firefox crashes when left idle with a number of tabs open, but it's not obvious that any particular page is triggering the crash. It started after Windows installed 3 updates/patches a couple of nights ago (29th Jun).

Annoyingly these updates don't show up in the list of installed Windows updates (maybe only "major" patches are listed?) so I can't either give the updates numbers or back them off my machine to correct the problem.

Hardware: Phenom II X6, 8GB RAM, Asus M4a88t M Usb3 mtherboard OS: Windows 7 64 bit (up to date patches but not SP1) Firefox: 3.6.18
