Notepad can read the large file as text --> is there a way to stop firefox crashing??

Are you sure that is really a json file?

My rough calculation indicates that would be like 1,614,600 bookmarks in that file, give or take a few hundred thousand bookmarks.

2300 bookmarks in a json file would be like 500kb.

Now, if you're talking about a bookmarks.html file that has a 1 to 3 ratio for favicons vs. bookmarks, that would indicate around 4600 bookmarks.

The json backup files don't include favicons, where a bookmarks.html file would.
