When using Firefox 8, the home page loading time takes several minutes - I have reverted to version 3.6 because the load time of ver. 8 is unbearably slow.
I don't have this problem with vers 3.6. I am running Vista on a quad 4 processor with 3.5mb ram and norton anti virus.

I have this problem too. Some sites load very quickly while others take several minutes. It's very annoying, and didn't happen before I upgraded a few days ago. I'm using Win7 64-bit.

Norton Anti-virus uses lot of resources. Nod32 or Avast could be better option.
- Open Firefox and select 'Help' on the top line. In the drop down box select 'Restart with add-ons disabled' This opens Firefox in Safe Mode (Firefox's own Safe Mode, not Windows Safe Mode).
- Place a tick in 'Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults' and then click on 'Make changes and restart'.
- You can install this addon - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/memory-fox/?src=search
Thanks for your response - only marginally better. I will persevere.
Thanks once again.

I don't know who marked this solved, because it certainly isn't. I've actually found some sites that won't load even after half an hour (e.g., www.baltimoresun.com), even in safe mode. Is this happening to anyone else?

The question certainly isn't solved. I have no trouble with speed when entering sites - it's just when first trying to enter Mozilla. I tried IE this morning as a test and was into the home page in a few secomds. Moxilla 8 takes about a minute and a half. Version 3.6 loads immediately. I previously tried vers 8 a couple of weeks ago and web sites took a long time to load. This was not a problem after using vers 3.6 for a while and then re-downloading vers 8. I am still frustrated by the slow load up time it takes to get to the home page and believe this may be something the system administrators need to fix..
I fixed my problem by creating a new profile. See if this helps you: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../912558#answer-302907
