Why does "open all in tabs" delete my entire current browsing session?

I went into my bookmarks and selected "open all in tabs" for a particular folder. It opened all those links in new tabs, all right - but it closed every tab I already had open, and did not save the session.

It is really, massively frustrating and stressful when this happens, because I have to spend hours slogging through weeks of history, trying to reconstruct what I was already doing. WHY is this set up this way? If it's going to delete all my current tabs, shouldn't it save them all as a session (preferably) or at least warn me that it will do so?

Chosen solution

this is not the standard behaviour in firefox - per default "open all in tabs" will open the selected bookmarks next to your already open tabs. do you have any extensions installed that might alter this behaviour?

not related to your question: you have a outdated version of the flash plugin installed on your system. for security reasons you should probably update to the latest version. you can check your plugins at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck.

Works here for me in Firefox 12.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Well, I feel better knowing that this is not normal Firefox behavior! I seem to remember using this option before and not having the same problem so, unless it does it to me again, I will assume it was just a glitch.

Thanks!
