If I don't use the default homepage I have to start Firefox twice. I have all add-ons and extentions disabled.

I have tried setting my homepage to Google and to Bing but Firefox closes as soon as the page loads. Starting it a second time works with no problems.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You can try to reset Firefox.

Reset creates a new profile and tries to import some settings from the old profile leaving the old profile intact.

Also check the settings in your security software.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I have tried all the suggested solutions and none of them work. With respect to the firewall I removed Firefox from the list then added it back. I don't think its a firewall problem because it is set to notify me when it blocks a program, which it has not been doing. Also, if it were related to my firewall why would it allow connection to the Firefox homepage but others.

Just to clarify, this problem only occurs when I try to set a different startup page. I'm running Windows XP sp3 and the last version of Firefox that did not have problems was 10.??? something. When I try to reinstall this version Firefox just automatically updates me to v13. Unless someone has actually experienced this problem and solved it, please to not respond to this topic. I had already used the help system to try and fix this problem before posting it. I don't need any further responses from people who are telling me do do things that are suggested in Firefoxes trouble shooting guides.

Thanks
