Firefox TOTALLY froze up. how to fix?
I recently updated my Java as an e-mail from mozilla prompted me to do & now EVERY time I load firefox (14) it TOTALLY freezes up. I even restored my computer to an earlier state & that did NOT solve the problem. I then uninstalled FF & re-installed. That did not solve the problem. Would appreciate any available help as mozilla is my favorite browser. Thanks!

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

No, this did not solve the problem. It will load & then freeze up. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I miss my firefox.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this: Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/.
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.
Does it help if you disable Java?
Disabling Java does nothing either. no matter what website I go to it hangs and then I have to close through my task manager. Virus scan is clean, as is malware. FF worked fine till I updated to 14.
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that works.
