I have read everything in your help topics regarding the automatic changing of my homepage and nothing applies to my problem. Everyday I change my homepage through 'tools' and everyday my homepage goes back to http://my.yahoo.com/. I've checked extensions and I've been trying to solve this problem ever since I quit using AT&T has my internet provider. Every once in a while I'll get a message from firefox when I start up my computer that firefox has prevented AT&T from changing my homepage. I have even spent hours on the phone with AT&T and they couldn't help.

hello mlclow, do you have any yahoo product (axis, toolbars, etc) installed on your pc that might change your homepage? if so, please try uninstalling it in the windows control panel/programs section.

if this does not solve the issue, please refer to the How to fix preferences that won't save help article for more solutions, especially the part about the user.js file inside your profile folder.

I tried both of your suggestions. First, I don't have any yahoo products that I can find. It was just my homepage for many years. Second, I did refer to the place you suggested (How to fix...) and went to the default folder and clicked on the places.sqlite. The folder won't open. I am really sick of yahoo continuing to override my homepage.

I don't know if I posted my reply in the correct spot so I'm going to post it in the "reply" spot also. I tried both of your suggestions. First, I don't have any yahoo products that I can find. in case there is a file named user.js present inside your profile folder, please try deleting it.

No, there isn't one.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Some security software does have virtualization features that can cause problems by protecting and restoring files in the Firefox profile folder.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that works better.

I have Windows Firewall, Symantec Antivirus & Antispy, and I run Malwarebytes in safe mode once a week just to check. Once I boot the computer in Safe mode, then what do I do?
