I have cleared cache, cookies and all history - when I start typing in the browsers URL window some websites still come up. Why?

The autocomplete drop-down will display both history and bookmarks by default. To see whether it is one or the other, you can adjust the following setting and test various combinations:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Privacy > "When using the location bar, suggest"
