set up a new computer with Windows 7 Pro and it does not run properly

I am setting up a new computer with a Windows 7 Pro OS. I've downloaded Firefox latest version. The browser continually freezes and/or is extremely slow. I've tried unsuccessfully to sync the new pc to the Mozilla server. In any event, experience has been very poor. I have had years of very good experience on a pc using Windows XP Pro. What can I do to resolve?
