Firefox has, for the last 4-5 months started hanging (~10seconds) very regularly when there's more than one tab open.

It doesn't matter what the content of the tab is (video, etc.).

I've uninstalled, reinstalled; disabled all addons; reset firefox; tried installing on both HDD and SSD; updated version and rolled back to previous versions. Nothing seems to help. It's driving me crazy.

Other browsers are fine: have used Chrome with no issues, Edge is 'fine'.

PC is fine: Win10 (64), i&-5820K, 16gb RAM (steady when firefox is hanging).

Have run MBAM, ASC, CCleaner, Kaspersky, etc..

Not using proxies.

Wired connection via EoP - net is fine; <5ms ping, 25mb up, 25mb down.

Any ideas?

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

Create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.
