My computer was partially frozen. I quickly unplugged the internet as something was downloading. I then tried to close Firefox and had to go into Ctrl-Alt-Del and close it. I ran AVG and it showed nothing. I reopened FF and it was right there as the opening page! I turned off the computer and restarted. I opened FF again and it was gone! Thank goodness. Any ideas about the webpage?

There are some ransomware web pages that can lock the browser.

If it's like the fake FBI/Interpol browser lock page, This add-on can stop such pages; disallow Script Button {web link} The Disallow Script button looks like a letter "M" and the title is the Minus Script, drag and drop the button on a toolbar. If the button is not displayed then nothing operates, except rules for plugins.

The way those tech support scam pages work is to keep reloading and showing a dialog every time you cancel it. If you press the Esc key rapidly several times in a row, that should break the cycle so you can close the tab.

Do you think it launched from another site you were visiting? Sometimes those are pushed through ad networks, so if you do not already use an extension to block unwanted ads, you might consider that option. For example, this one is popular:
