I am receiving an insecure connection on a popular secure website. https://www.match.com

Why is that? It was fine until I updated to the latest version of Firefox!

Works fine for me. Try https://www.match.com/cpx/en-us/match/IndexPage/ Your Shockwave Flash is seriously out of date.

Hi Mike, could you check this article for troubleshooting suggestions:

The error page typically has an "Advanced" button providing access to more technical information, including an error code starting with SEC_ERROR. The most common code we see here is covered in this article:

Does that help you track down the explanation for the problem? If not, please copy/paste the error information into your next reply.

I see this error on the page: www.match.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for the following names: *.meeticaffinity.fr, meeticaffinity.fr

This usually means the the website isn't meant to be used to access with the HTTPS protocol. Try the HTTP protocol to see if the server redirects you to the correct website via a 301 Moved Permanently response.

Thank you for each of your responses. I have tried each one. I updated shockwave and it was up to date. I have tried reinstalling firewall software Norton. tried http://www.match.com. Not one of them has worked. I do appreciate this, but do you have any other ideas I may try?

Each time I try I receive one of two replies from the site: 1. redirected to a site with a ".nl" extension 2. insecure website

That seems suspicious. What is the .nl website?

I have run my Norton antivirus and it comes back with no viruses

According to some threads on the internet, Lexamore.nl is affiliated with Match and if Match detects your connection as running through the Netherlands, it will redirect there. To clear any traces related to previous redirections, could you try "the usual":

If a site is generally known to work in Firefox, these are general suggestions to try when it stops working normally:

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Ctrl+r to check progress.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, the current site should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can remove that site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

If that doesn't help, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Lexamore is a Dutch dating website that match.com bought. They have geoip that redirects automatically based on IP address. You can attempt to clear your cache and cookies if you used a Netherlands VPN recently.

If that doesn't help then they think your IP is in NL. It could also be your DNS server redirecting you. There are tons of similar issues if you search for "lexamore and match.com"
