Logins on some websites don't work
I've recently encountered a problem with Firefox on Linux where some websites won't permit me to log in. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which work and which don't.
What I've tried so far: Clearing browser data Disabling extensions Loading clean browser Updating to latest version
So far the only thing that works, curiously enough, is using the latest version of Firefox on my phone.
What could be causing this? Why would Firefox Mobile work but not Firefox Desktop?

What site are we talking about? If others know about them they can see if they have the same issue or not.
They're mostly commerce and finance websites, unfortunately most of them you can't just sign up for a free account for testing. The most accessible example is probably ratesetter.com.au.
Noteworthy is that a couple months ago this was all working fine, I'm not sure what's changed in the mean time.
Hi, please try a Refresh but Note that this does more than uninstalling and re-installing does. Normal uninstalling does not remove some preferences which may have become corrupt. Please Refresh but do this 1st:
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles
then
Or put in Firefox 62 :
Both a refresh (even a clean slate dumping all settings instead of backup/restore) failed. Problem has occurred on Firefox 60, 61 and also 62.
What exactly happens if you try to login?
Do you get an error that the login failed or are you redirected to the home page?
If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.
- make sure your extensions and filters are updated to the latest version
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems
Firefox shows the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case content is blocked by Tracking Protection.
- click the shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection
- You can check the Web Console by Tracking Protection
- "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Web Developer
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/tracking-protection-firefox
Such issues can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.
- check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions"
Edit: Also fails on a copy of Firefox ESR I had handy. Working flawlessly on Firefox 61 for Android, so whatever is wrong is either PC or Linux specific.
Sorry, missed this with prior response. The issue occurs even on a clean install with no history/altered settings/cache. The problem happens on multiple websites and the specific outcome is that instead of logging in the page just refreshes as if I'd clicked refresh instead, no error message. Doing exactly the same thing on the same version of Firefox but on Android works flawlessly and logs in as expected. Logins on some websites work fine but others don't, always the same result for any given website though.
