The last 3-4 days, google always shows as my search engine in the search bar. I've deleted it numerous times and have it set back to Yahoo first and Duck Duck Go second. No matter, google still shows up in the search bar as the search engine. I've checked the web and tried everything I've found to get rid of the hijacking but nothing works. I even uninstalled Google Chrome, which I don't use anyway. I've run malwarebytes, Webroot Secure Anywhere, ADW Cleaner and Super Anti Spyware with clean results. Anybody know how to stop this for good?

Hey there!

On the screenshot you've just sent. Unclick the DuckduckGo and Yahoo under the Search Shortcuts. If that still doesn't work. I recommend you to unistall Firefox and reinstall again. Are you using the latest Firefox?

Hope I helped!

Kind regards,

Bithiah

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; (<Control> [Mac=<Command>] <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove “ Google “ Anything.

Also remove SafeSearch, SearchAssist Incognito, FileConverter Addon, SearchLock, DiscreteSearch, WebSearch, Findwide Search Engine, securedsearch

Now do the same in the computer’s Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the Applications folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Hi sonnyboy1, where do you see this -- it doesn't look like a built-in page or toolbar control:

Does the address bar show it is on a website, or on a page generated by an add-on? (You also can use Ctrl+i to call up Page Info and copy/paste the address from there if needed.)

Hi jscher2000, I've been using this toolbar for 3 plus years. It's firefox 91.0.2 as of now. The new image in just a small bit of my homepage. I've deleted google search in tools many times and it doesn't show when I open tools and search. What shows is Duck duck go and Bing. As of some days ago, Yahoo is no longer a choice in Firefox. Bummer.

I see, it's a bar on the Protopage site. Do they have a setting for the search engine used in their page? There's an icon to the right of the Google button -- it looks like a menu. Does that give you any flexibility?

Firefox's default search engine setting only affects built-in search bars --

-- it does not override how websites work.

Here's how you can add Yahoo! search to the list in Firefox (for use in Firefox's built-in search bars):

(A) Open a Yahoo search results page, for example, https://search.yahoo.com/search?p=firefox

(B) Right-click the URL in the address bar and use the bottom item to add Yahoo! to your search engine list
