there is a shared site that is password protected. Normally, i log in to my own area. I have saved that password. Occassionaly (like once a week during a conference call) i need to access several different sections of the site. Those other sections have different passwords. when i enter that password, firefox wants me to answer the annoying question, "would you like to change your stored password"

how do i eliminate this message yet keep my own password saved???

The only way to avoid that would be to disable Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Remember passwords for sites" or toggling the pref signon.rememberSignons to false with an extension or custom button

That won't affect stored passwords, but will disable the Firefox Password Manager from filling passwords and will prevent that sliding bar to update or save a new password from showing. This is also useful if you have a Master Password and others use that computer as well.

no, that does not do it. I want the passwords remembered, but i want to set one or two sites to not ask me if i want to change the password when i go to a rarely used section that has a different password.

The passwords are still remembered, only the password manager gets disabled as long as the remember box doesn't have a check-mark. Your passwords will work again as soon as you re-enable the password manager.

Current Firefox version only remember one name and password combination for a domain, so if the name is the same, but the password is different then you can't use the password manager. If the names are different then there is no problem.
