i've noticed lately that certain words are highlighted in color and double underlined. when i put the cursor on the word, a little pop-up comes up and if clicked on, it takes me to some website that i didn't want to go to. how can i remove this feature?

This is a script on the page that is used to show you ads. The simplest solution is to not point any of those words. You can disable scripts, but that would seriously hock your browsing experience, and is completely unnecessary, since you can just refrain from pointing any of the linked words.

thank you for taking the time to reply to my issue. was there something i did that caused this to happen and if so, can i undo it? a second problem has now surfaced; i cannot get my firefox to load. i tried the suggestion in an article on this site i.e., to bring up the Task Manager and end the process for firefox.exe so i can uninstall/reinstall the firefox application. this does not work for me. HELP! i'd much rather use firefox than explorer.

You can look at Adblock Plus to block those pop-ups.

You need to subscribe to a Filter list (e.g. the EasyList).
