I've been using FF for a long time on this PC. Suddenly its started crashing every few minutes, its the Windows "Firefox has stopped working" crash, so doesn't record on Firefox's about:crashes. If FF is left running in the background, it dies after a few minutes - I don't even need to be using it.

The window event details are ..

Faulting application name: firefox.exe, version: 5.0.0.4183, time stamp: 0x4df95302 Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x751fc9f1 Faulting process id: 0x12d4 Faulting application start time: 0x01cc3f9b0bde3b13 Faulting application path: D:\Programs\FirefoxPortableAES\App\firefox\firefox.exe Faulting module path: unknown Report Id: ddcd75e8-ab8e-11e0-8c72-0017a4d0a704

I use Portable Firefox and I have both 4.0 and 5.0 installations, and both show the same symptoms. I downloaded a completely clean 5.0 and also a 3.6.18, and both show the same fault.

Any ideas? Windows is clearly killing Firefox, it doesn't appear to be an add-on or plugin that's the issue.

I've just tried Aurora, and it seems to work. I've been using it now for just about a whole day's work without a crash. I briefly swapped back to 5.0 to check that my PC hadn't magically fixed itself, but no .. 5.0 only lasted a couple of minutes before dying.

It's not properly supported as a Portable APP but there's a way to bodge it together.

I just tried the 6.0 Beta, and that doesn't work either. So at the moment this PC can't run Firefox 3, 4, 5, or 6. Let's hope that Mozilla don't make a change to 7.0 that makes it unusable as well!
