When attempting to edit bookmark properties, the bookmark edit window is not visible; how can I edit a bookmark?
When right-clicking on a bookmark and selecting "Properties" a faint shadow appears on the toolbar but a window is not visible. Pressing the "esc" key will cancel the operation, presumably cancelling the edit window.

Odd indeed. Well you can open bookmarks on the pull down menu and select Show all Bookmarks, here you will be able to edit.
Give this a read. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-use-bookmarks
Thank you for the instruction. With the edit window open, I am unable to modify the bookmark name. None of the bookmarks have values in the Name field. Any value entered into the "Name" field persists across other bookmarks when others are selected, and the value entered in the (empty) "Name" field does not save / persist when the edit window is closed.Does this suggest a permissions issue?
I have a workaround: I exported the bookmarks (.json) from the Show All Bookmarks/Library window, edited the bookmarks (names) using a text editor, and then "Restore > Choose File..." the modified bookmark file.
(This can't possibly be the intended method, but it works.)
Are you using a multiple monitor setup?
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thank you for the suggestion.
- When in Safe Mode, the Properties dialog box DOES appear.
- But, I am NOT able to edit the bookmark name in the dialog box (although changes to other fields persist).
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
- Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
- Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
