HP Simplepass Identy Protection won't work with Firefox 8.x
My HP Pavilion DV7 notebook has Simplepass Identity Protection software that runs the fingerprint scanner. This worked with Firefox 3.6.x, but will not work with Firefox 8.x. Help!

Finally i got this problem solved........i today installed Firefox 9 .......... and found Simple Pass 2011 build 288 to work with Firefox 9.. Here's the link: http://support.authentec.com/Downloads/DownloadManager.aspx?Command=Core_Download&EntryId=27
So if u have Simple Pass 2012 installed ..uninstall it first
Though Simple Pass 2011 build 288 is old version than Simple Pass 2012 but still it works .
I tried it only on Firefox 9.o ,,,,i guess it will work with Firefox 8 also....

enjoy if it works for u too....

That did it! I installed Firefox 9 as well since I didn't need to use 8 for any special reason.
Thanks for sharing the fix!

So now that its been a few months Firefox has updated to version 12 the above workaround stopped working because Firefox won't let you use the TrueSuite Website Logon Extension, I've spent the last 2 weeks and way too many hours trying different combinations of Firefox with Simplepass versions and I've finally found one that works, so for everyone that wants the functionality that SHOULD come with the fingerprint reader you've purchased please follow the instructions below.
First, install Firefox 11 (I've tried it a little with 12 but had varied results, stick with 11 until the extension is updated) make sure to disable updating under options\advanced\update so it doesn't silent update and break the workaround. Firefox 11 Download - http://majorgeeks.com/Mozilla_Firefox_11.0_Final_d7257.html
Second, Install Simplepass 5.4.0.531 (newest version from Authentec website 3/19/2012, the original workaround used a version from 2011) Make sure to set up your profile in Simplepass, add a few fingerprints and make sure to restart Firefox , when its finished you should notice a new button on your main toolbar(or any toolbar) that looks like a finger cursor, one of the options on the drop down menu on this new button is open Simplepass, if you have this then Simplepass installed correctly Simplepass 5.4.0.531 - http://support.authentec.com/Downloads/DownloadManager.aspx?EntryId=25 (find the HP Simplepass folder on the left, click it then scroll down in the bottom right window to find newest version)
Last, install Fingerfox Extension, reboot Firefox, you should now have a new toolbar button of tiny Firefox logo on a fingerprint reader (its really tiny) Fingerfox - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fingerfox-se/
Feel free to right click on either new toolbar button and customize, you can drag and drop them to take them off your toolbar or add them to an empty toolbar and hide the toolbar as you won't need either button for functionality. (I did find that if i took the simplepass button off the toolbar it would reappear on restart, that why i recommend the using the hidden toolbar method)
I've found that full functionality is restored to my Simplepass, it asks to remember passwords for fingerprint recall when i first sign in on sites as well as enters them when you use the fingerprint reader. If your having issues try adding the website, login info, and password in the Simplepass program then refreshing the webpage, this worked for me on java popup login box sites like soundcloud. I didn't test any of the actual features of Fingerfox or change any settings. It seems that Fingerfox allows Simplepass to work without the TrueSuite Website Logon Extension, which isn't supported in Firefox past version 9. Hope to see a update soon that will work for 12, leave a message if you have any problems, or if you get it to work, I'd like to know its not a random fluke and that there's a future for my fingerprint scanner past the windows login.
