Cannot Get Full-Screen

more options

When I press [F11] or View/Full Screen, I am not getting full-screen. The only thing that goes away is the strip menu at the top. The menu bar, navigation toolbar, bookmarks toolbar, and add-on bar are still visible.

I'm using Firefox 26.0 on top of Windows 7/64-bit.

Something corrupted my computer this morning. I had to restore the operating system from a backup.

I first tried running Firefox in safe mode. I couldn't tell if it worked because it looks so different. So, I uninstalled Firefox and installed a brand new version (restoring my settings from a backup).

I tried changing the setting in about:config - browser.fullscreen.autohide - from 'false' to 'true' ... does not seem to make any difference. I still see all the toolbars at the top ... they do not 'hide'.

Hello moose53, probably an extension is the problem, if you don't want to check it in safe mode, see : Test for faulty extensions, if an extension is the problem it is the same thing, you can also do the opposite........disable one extension....check the behaviour, if does not correct the problem enable it again, and go to the next extension.....etc.

thank you

I uninstalled Firefox again before I read your message. And, installed each extension separately, rather then getting them from a backup.

After I read your message, I disable every single extension. I still have the same behaviour ... all the toolbars at the top of the page do not go away when I press [F11].

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

Did you try Safe Mode?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Tried safe mode. No joy.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling 3 times. No joy.

Tried deleting localstore.* and prefs.js. No joy.

Tried creating a new profile. No joy.

Cannot get the top toolbars to go away during full screen. Has the way that this works been changed in the latest update??

Thanks.

This 26.0 is the most bug-ridden piece of junk I have ever seen. It's also not saving my tabs and pinned tabs between sessions.

I'm going to uninstall this and go back to verison 24.0.

Thanks for all your help.

I think the not saving tabs and pinned tabs between sessions is a BUG in version 26.-. I rolled back to version 24.0 and no longer have that problem.

The not being able to get rid of the toolbars at the top when in full screen, I believe, is caused by Windows 7 (64-bit). I'm seeing other people in other venues also having a problem with full screen on 64-bit Windows 7. AND, even with Firefox 24.0, I still cannot get rid of the toolbars at the top when in full screen. I've tried some addons ... no joy.

I'm going to stay with version 24.0. It seems more stable. I'll wait and see if Mozilla catches up with support for 64-bit computers.

Thanks for all you help.

I haven't noticed any problems with full screen on Windows 7 Pro (x64) in any version of Firefox.

And you weren't having any problems until you restored Windows from a backup? What did that entail?
