I've used Thunderbird as my mail program for years without problem. This morning, I was able to download and save my e-mail as I always do. However, this afternoon, when I opened Thunderbird, it prompted me to open a new e-mail account which I did, using my old e-mail address. But now all my e-mail folders and saved e-mails are gone. My address book is still intact. How can I recover my old data?

Thanks for the response, christ1. Using the link you provided, I was able to restore the prefs.js file from a three-day old version by right clicking on the file and selecting Properties, Previous Versions, Restore. This reset Thunderbird, Tools, Account Settings, Server Settings, Local directory and Local Folders, Local directory to the original folder names. My old Local Folders and saved e-mails are now available.

However, now when I open Thunderbird, I get a prompt from User Account Control asking if I want to allow Thunderbird to make changes to my computer. I respond "yes" and Thunderbird will open, but I would like to eliminate the UAC prompt. I intend to look into this later, but if anyone has a suggestion, please feel free to respond.

Thunderbird deleted everything in my Inbox with many priceless photos. I have no idea why or how to get everything back.
