For a while now I have been getting a "Mozilla Firefox Not Responding " message and Firefox will slow down and keep not working, I'll also get a "Script Error" pop up box that keep reappearing around when the "Not Responding" messages happen. I have tried reinstalling Firefox but it hasn't helped. I don't have any extensions enabled and I have tried going to the site http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unresponsive_Script_Warning but cannot understand what it is suggesting for me to do. I am not very good with computers and need some actual help to get rid of these unresponsive scripts and stop Firefox from not responding. It is happening more and more frequently and is a big problem as I work from my computer.

Have you tried safe mode Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode

Memory problems would cause a hangs, but more likely an immediate crash.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I am having the same problem, and from what I can understand from the suggested articles, they offer the opposite of what I want.

The "Firefox hangs" and other articles seem to assume that you want the script to respond. I don't.

What I want is for a script to be given a limited amount of time to respond. If it does not respond in that time, it is stopped automatically. No slow down, no pop-up, no manual decision. Just make the script stop before it can suck up so much processing power that nothing else can happen.

My problem is that the sources of the unresponsive scripts are Hotmail and Gmail almost all the time. So I can't just tell the sites that they can't run scripts. But they will have the "script stopped responding" issue even when I am not using them, and I will have to figure out that this has happened because my computer stops functioning, and even then I have to visit each website to figure out which one is causing the problem. And the computer remains slow for several minutes after stopping the script.

As far as I am concerned, there is nothing that Hotmail or Gmail could be doing that requires the full attention of my computer and myself. I would rather have the webpage just close then let the script suck up all my power. So I am not in need of something that will let scripts have more time to work, I need something that will limit the time scripts have to work before they are stopped.

However, the email programs seem to work fine after the script is stopped, so whatever was going on can't be very important.

I have tried the recommended reset of firefox, remove the extensions, script-blocker add-ons. But the problem is specifically these email programs and using them is unavoidable.

So what I am looking for is a way to shut down a script before it becomes a problem.

Thanks for any help.
