I recently updated this site http://www.stjohnsburyband.org to HTML5 and CSS. It was displaying properly and then it suddenly started displaying in all bold. I ran all of my pages and style sheets through the W3C validators and all are fine. The site display properly in Chrome, Opera, Safari (for Windows), and IE. I tried the solutions posted in the question where the developer had used FrontPage and had the same issue. The Safemode and deleting the history did not correct the issue. I use Notepad to create all my files. I am on Windows 7 Home Premium and Firefox 38.0.1. Why is the site displaying in all bold?

hi, you have set font-weight: bold as a css rule in line 26 of home_styles.css...

The home page is supposed to be bold so this css file is correct. The Members, Calendar, History, and Contact Us pages are not supposed to be all bold.

i cannot reproduce the issue on the contact us page for expample - have you cleared the cache as well?

I have cleared the cache many times to see if that was causing the problem. I've attached a screenshot of the Contact Us page to show that everything is in bold.

Works for me on the Contact page.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

What font is Firefox using for that text?

You can right-click on a web page and select "Inspect Element" to open the Inspector (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer). You can check the font used for selected text in the Font tab in the right pane of the Inspector.

I cleared the toggle and restarted Firefox. This did not clear up the problem.

Did you check what font Firefox is using on those pages?

I have noticed something interesting. When I open the site locally (on my computer) in Firefox, all the pages display properly (only the text I want bold is bold). It's only when I open the site from the internet in Firefox, that all of the text on every page is bold.

What is your normal zoom level? Firefox stores your zoom level preference on a site-by-site basis, so it could be different between your local computer and your actual site.

I ask because Firefox seems to have a lesser or greater contrast between bold and normal weight MS Trebuchet font at different zoom levels. In the attached (4x zoom) screen shot I can see a very substantial difference between the regular text and bolded heading, but at some zoom levels there's hardly any noticeable difference.
