Firefox deletes the first couple characters in the URL address box when I type fast.

Example. I want to go to mozilla.com

When I start to type, I'll see mozi, but then it suddenly disappears and I finish with lla.com. I instinctively press enter and end up having to re-enter the address slowly which is a major pain in the rear.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

The problem might also be caused by hardware acceleration with poor graphics drivers, in which case Safe Mode (above answer) will fix it too.

To disable hardware acceleration only, go to Firefox preferences, Advanced tab, and uncheck the checkbox "use hardware acceleration where available".

If this turns out to be the cause of the problem, I'd really like to know about it, so please someone either file a bug at bugzilla.mozilla.org / Core / Graphics or mail me.
