I followed the instructions to installImy profile from my Windows PC on to the TB running on my new Mac OS but the profile did not transfer. What 's wrong?
I downloaded Thunderbird 3.1 for Mac OS. It installed properly. It is running well. It receives messages from my email service (Verizon). But it does not show the several folders I created in my Windows TB for sorting emails according to sort rules I had set up there. I tried to transfer my Personal Profile from my Windows PC to my new MacBook. To do that I did the following: First, on the Windows PC I opened TB, went to TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION, then clicked on SHOW FOLDER in the Profile Folder row. This appeared on that line: 0lvpttu5.default. I found that folder in my hard drive. The contents of that folder are: (1) "extensions", which was empty; and (2) "mail incoming.verizon.net" a file which had all of my email sorting folders in it as well as a duplicate of each one with a suffix .msf attached to the duplicate. I then copied this 0lvpttu5.default folder to a thumbdrive. I opened the TB on the Mac computer. I opened the thumbdrive folder on the Mac to show the 0lvpttu5.default folder. I opened TROUBLESHOOTING on the Mac TB. I clicked on Show in Profile. This file opened in the Profiles folder for the Mac TB: n5dqfkm1.default. I pasted the 0lvpttu5.default folder into the n5dqfkm1.default. Then I opened the 0lvpttu5.default file I had just added to the n5dqfkm1.default folder. It contained "incoming.verizon.net" -- that file had all of my folders in it and duplicates of each one with the suffix .msf. I cut the contents of "incoming.verizon.net", and pasted them in to the n5dqfkm1.default folder.
None of my folders appear in my TB incoming mail section as they did on the Windows version. None of the saved emails sorted into those various folders are there either. When I open TROUBLESHOOTING in the Windows TB now, nothing appears when I click on the SHOW PROFILE. Thank you for your assistance.

I pasted the 0lvpttu5.default folder into the n5dqfkm1.default.
You're suppose to paste the contents of 0lvpttu5.default into n5dqfkm1.default, not the entire 0lvpttu5.default folder.

Thank you. I believe I may have already done that because after I pasted the whole 0lvpttu5.default folder into the n5dqfkm1.default I then took out its contents and pasted them back into n5dqfkm1.default folder separately. So now when I opened n5dqfkm1.default it shows all of the files from 0lvpttu5.default. But maybe I need to repeat the process: should I open 0lvpttu5.default on the thumb drive to show its contents and then paste them on to n5dqfkm1.default? But first, do I need to erase the contents of n5dqfkm1.default? Or, should I try to start over by creating a new identity for my TB in the Mac?
But first, do I need to erase the contents of n5dqfkm1.default?
Normally you don't need to do that. But in order to clean up the mess you created it would probably be a good idea. Note that you should backup any messages you've already received when using the n5dqfkm1.default profile if your account is a POP account.
should I open 0lvpttu5.default on the thumb drive to show its contents and then paste them on to n5dqfkm1.default?
Yes, this is the correct way to do this.
Okay. I have tried this but unfortunately am still having the problem. Guess I'm doing something wrong and really appreciate your helping me through this tangle I've somehow created. I love Thunderbird and would hate to lose it. Anyway, here's what I did. I opened the thumb drive folder. It has a folder called Thunderbird. I opened that one. It had a folder called Profile. I opened that one, which contained the folder "0lvpttu5.default". In that folder was another folder called "Mail". In that one was a folder called "incoming.verizon.net". I opened that one and copied all of its contents. I then pasted all those items back into the folder called Mail. Then I put the thumb drive into my new MacBook. I went to the n5dqfkm1.default folder. I deleted from that folder every item which I had previously installed from the 0lvpttu5.default folder -- these were mostly the same items that I had just pasted in to the Mail folder on the thumb drive. I then copied those Mail folder items and pasted them into n5dqfkm1.default. So as I said, I don't know what I've done wrong. Maybe there's a particular file I should be looking for in my "0lvpttu5.default" that's the key to a successful transfer and I havn't moved it . . . . .?
I opened that one, which contained the folder "0lvpttu5.default".
You need to copy everything underneath "0lvpttu5.default". I.e. the entire contents of "0lvpttu5.default", each and every file and folder. You can do that in one step.
So sorry to keep having this problem. Your patience is amazing and greatly appreciated. I can't believe you're doing this as a volunteer, i.e. uncompensated! As you instructed in the last message, I opened the 0lvpttu5.default and copied everything in it. Perhaps I should show you just what that included. So here are all the items that were copied from that folder, and which I then pasted on to the MAC OS TB.
"extensions" folder
"Mail" folder
"TestPilotExperiementalFiles" folder addons.sqlite-journal [in front of this is an icon of a sheet of paper with a turned down top right corner; all following entries have the same icon]
cookies.sqlite-shm
cookies.sqlite-wal
global-messages-db.sqlite.159a.part
places.sqlite.6f26.part
places.sqlite-wal
webappsstore.sqlite-shm
webappsstore.sqlite-wal
I had previously opened the "MAIL" folder, and copied every individual item in it, which included all of my message filter files, and pasted them separately into the OS MAC TB.
I suppose you didn't mention all the files underneath 0lvpttu5.default above, there should be more in the profile. As said before, you need to copy everything from 0lvpttu5.default to the new profile.
In my last message to you I did not list the individual files that appear in the "MAIL" folder, which is part of 0lvpttu5.default folder. But, as I said, I have already added everything from the MAIL folder to the TB on the MacBook.
Perhaps the problem is that the 0lvpttu5.default folder is missing some important files. The items I listed are everything that appears in it.
Interestingly, the TB on my Windows PC is still functioning correctly. It still is sorting into my created sub-folders according to the rules I set up. So there must be a PROFILE somewhere on that computer's hard drive. Maybe it's not the 0lvpttu5.default folder. But when I click on SHOW FOLDER on the TROUBLESHOOTING window, in the Windows TB, nothing appears now, as if there is no PROFILE. Maybe I should look for the correct PROFILE folder on the C Drive. If you think so, please give me instructions on how to find it. Let me say that under my USER folder on the C Drive there is a folder for THUNDERBIRD which contains the 0lvpttu5.default folder under profile.
Again, thank you very much for your continued help.
