version 38.1.0 I am trying to attach mostly PDFs to emails and the whole screen freezes. nothing works then, just the old CTRL-ALT-DEL. I tell it to close just the message window, but instead, closes Thunderbird entirely. it is very frustrating, I think I am going to find the previous version so I can work. this problem is going on since Thunderbird automatically updated a few days ago.

What is your anti-virus software?

AVG Whatever it was, it seems to have been fixed. I started by uninstalling the current version (the latest) of Thunderbird, I ran all the diagnostic tests for the PC hardware and software, ran a full virus scan, defrag my disk, all I could think of, and restarted the computer. I looked up on the Internet which version of Thunderbird seemed to have better consumer feedback and installed that one. I think the latest update of Thunderbird has something to do with it.
