Firefox crashes

Everytime I try to open Firefox, it immediately crashes. I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times. I have also tried to open up in safe mode which doesn't help either. I also tried to open up Firefox using a blank profile which is a method I found on line but that didn't help either. Below are the latest 5 crash IDs.

Sorry to hear about the crashes and thank you for the reports.

This looks like an incompatibility with your current version of WebSense. From time to time, a Websense update or a Firefox update results in a severe incompatibility.

If this version of Websense is an unchangeable feature of your environment -- you can't update or disable it -- or if updating doesn't help, then you a couple different options.

(1) Switch from Firefox 45.0 to the Extended Support Release version of Firefox (ESR). There still is a version derived from Firefox 38 for another month or two. Websense supports Firefox 38 the last time I checked. I'll give the full steps in a separate post.

(2) Create a fake qipcap.dll file that will block Firefox from using the incompatible qipcap.dll file. Please see this post for more information on this option, which I have not tried myself: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1111324#answer-847872

If you decide to switch to Firefox ESR, here is how I suggest installing it:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.7.0esr from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ to a convenient location. In order to get that version, you'll need to click the link on the right side just above the list of languages to Show Firefox 38. Then scroll down to your preferred language.

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder, either:

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\Fx45

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Fx45

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that old folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \Fx45\Plugins
  • \Fx45\browser\plugins

This worked. Now I need to get my old bookmarks to show up.

Did your Firefox create a new profile?? Usually after that procedure all the bookmarks are exactly where they were before.
