I've been using the Thunderbird ProfilePassword (v 0.7.17) addon in-conjunction with the profile manager

I've found a bug which if running a version of TB past 38.7.2 the addon blocks you from sending emails, downgrading to 38.7.2 or disabling the addon fixes the issue

This addon was working perfectly since Thunderbird version 3.0, but seems to be incompatible past 38.7.2, is there a newer version or a similar addon that can be used?

Check the extension's page on AMO or contact the extension author. https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/

What does the extension do anyway?

Looks like it hasn't been updated since TB v9.0

It adds a layer of security, when you open the profile manager and choose a user it then pops up with a dialogue box asking for an alphanumeric password (which is setup initially)

It just stops other users from reading emails stored using IMAP

I use a Master Password, and the Startup Master add-on.

I suggest an alternative since I feel that kaosmos may not be inclined to rewrite his many excellent add-ons if Thunderbird changes the add-on interface.

Neither my choice of Startup Master, nor your ProfilePassword offer real security, per se. Any "security" implemented by an add-on can be disabled by starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode. And much of your email store is stored in plain text, so anyone with access to your personal files in Thunderbird can browse or copy your message stores.

A stout safe provides security. The curtain across the entrance to a changing room provides privacy, and these measures are little more than a curtain.
