My downloads no longer appear as separate tabs at the bottom of the screen. How do I get this back?

On the previous version of Firefox when I downloaded a file and it would appear as a separate tab at the bottom of the screen on a separate bar. I did nothing to cause this to happen and I was very glad that Firefox works this way. Under the new version I have to specify a folder then open that folder to see what file I received. This sucks. The tabs stayed on the screen as reminders of the files but when they go into a folder they are hidden from view. How do I get this feature back?

No idea what you had before. Firefox Download works in 2 ways only unless you had a addon or Extension that changed that.

Gather you do not like telling it where to go every time :=}, Please Copy/Paste about:preferences into the Address Bar then Enter. Down the page to Files and Applications. Here you can choose a dedicated location for the files to download to each time.

You may want to go to the 2 Bar Menu (far right next to Extensions) and Click then down the list to Optimize and Click. Mouse up to the Download Arrow and Click you can stop it from Hiding when not in use if wish as well as drag it where you want it. https://www.howtogeek.com/333110/how-to-customize-firefox-quantum-and-remove-the-white-space-around-the-title-bar/
