Hopefully easy!

Just want to change the 'white color' of my words in my tabs, menu bar, etc. so it is easier to read everything. The white color of the words make it very, very difficult to read; even black 'lettering' would be a great improvement! Seems to be a easy fix, but have looked and looked in both Firefox and Windows, cannot find anything to make this simple change.

Thank you in advance for help!

Hi Charlie, could you try changing from the "Default" theme to the "Light" theme? There's a Themes button at the bottom of the Customize tab. This article will get you into that area:

Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars

Does that work any better?

jscher2000, thank you for your help, I tried that first thing last week. The thing is I do not want to change my Theme, just the color of the words.

Currently I have a super nice "Winter Theme" that is just outstanding, but with the white lettering, things are quite hard to read. Plus, and please correct me if I am wrong, when I change the theme to 'light' my super nice Winter theme disappears completely, which of course defeats the purpose.

Any more suggestions, and thank you again for your help. CM

Hi Charlie, you're right, if you're not using the Default theme now, you don't want to switch to the Light theme.

Each theme you install has either bright text or dark text, to contrast with the background. This triggers a bunch of internal rules to determine the text color on that background.

It's theoretically possible to override that using custom style rules, but I'm not sure what places would need to be edited. Could you give a link to that particular theme on the Add-ons site?

Dear jscher2000,

First, thank you again for your help! The theme is: 'WINTER SUNRISE,' by: "MaDonna" So sorry, not sure how to 'link.' :-(

more options

No problem, Google found it.

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/wintr_sunrise/

Many parts of it are dark, so I see why MaDonna said it should have white text.

When I experiment with changing text to black, I can't read it. There is a black text-shadow. If I change that to something more like the theme color, it's a little more readable, but kind of annoying. Screenshot attached.

Not sure what to suggest here!

To get tips on modifying the appearance of Firefox using custom style rules, I can give you links to some additional resources:

jscher2000, thank you. Will try all! (Goodness did think to Google for link, should have.) Thanks again for all your efforts! CM  :0)

If you have installed a lightweight theme then the default text color and background color of the toolbars are defined by that theme. The colors of the currently selected lightweight theme are stored as the first entry in the lightweightThemes.usedThemes pref as textcolor and accentcolor.

You can edit this pref and set another value for the "textcolor":"#ffffff" part.
